James Francis

Dual British and Australian citizenships, 55. He began his professional career in mining in 1987 as an Underground Research Geologist with the Shamva Gold Mine in Zimbabwe. Thereafter he acquired mining expertise spanning more than three decades working with Ashton Mines Ltd., Newcrest Mining Ltd., Alacer Gold Corporation, and Merdeka; in mine sites from Australia to Fiji, Papua New Guinea, Indonesia, Turkey, and back again in Indonesia. His core professional skills comprise virtually all aspects of mining from Exploration Geology to Mapping & Interpretive Skills, Resource Estimation, Project Development, Drill Design-Planning-and Implementation, Open Cut Mining, Underground Mining and General Management of Operations.

He is also an expert in HSE, deeply involved at all levels in the site Safety Management, Environmental Management and Crisis Management plans, Risk Registers, Risk Assessments and Incident Response Management. He led efforts at the Company towards attaining accreditation for the ISO 14001 Environmental Management System, and implementing radar scanning using the IBIS-Rover for mine slope monitoring. He holds Senior First Aid Certificate and QMS Certificate Levels 1-3.

He graduated with a BSc (Honors) in Geology from Southampton University and a Master of Science in Mines Geology from the Cambrone School of Mines, both in England.
